Taken by surprise …..

I had a lovely late afternoon walk yesterday and happened upon an unexpected surprise. Someone had been busy brightening up the world with wonderful woolly fish and flowers, crocheted, felted, fun and fanciful. I would like to share some of these be-beached fishy creatures and flowers……..

I love the free form crochet but I have not attempted any myself. The thought of some crochet ‘WOOL BOMBING’ in the garden could be fun.
And finally the sun is setting…….

Good night.

Obsession…….

Another day another bag…….pale chalky pink. I have started a third. I find that when I get past the initial stages of increasing it is the ideal carry around and do in an odd moment item, and there are plenty of those! A coffee stop break make, a five minute pick up and crochet a couple of rounds item, when there is not enough time to concentrate fully. Hoping to complete a third bag tomorrow.

‘At Last’ my little bag is finished……. hooray!

DSCF1517
I am in string bag heaven! Just finished the little denim number and I am looking forward to taking it out for a jolly jaunt tomorrow. I couldn’t resist tying a white rose onto the handle with some navy lace. I am celebrating with some Glen Miller on the record player. I have started another in chalky pink! This could develop into an obsession.
One of my favourite tracks ‘At Last’ blissful listening……

Happy crocheting.

Artie Shaw likes buttons……

DSCF1479
I couldn’t resist photographing my large glass sweet jar, now a button container (it was full of soap!)….. I should really tip out the contents to see the buttons at the centre of this button mass. Perhaps I will, but not tonight as I want to post this and then continue making my string bag. I am using some white Indian cotton as it has been sitting on the wool stash shelf for a very long time and a 5mm crochet hook.

The wool shop is open tomorrow and I am hoping that the yarn to finish my hand warmers has arrived. I would like to be able to say I’ve finished that project.

Flowers all the way……

DSCF1319
I love the colours of this yarn. I use it to decorate my hand warmers. I can’t remember what make it is but I think it is called flowers. The wool shop doesn’t stock it any more so I must make the most of it.

Happy hands are warm hands…….

DSCF1291DSCF1294
I have just got in from ‘Les Mis’ and feel quite emotionally drained so have started making hand warmers again. Today I visited the wool shop to get some more yarn. I am using Monsoon, a James Brett yarn (30% wool and 70% acrylic) with a 5 hook and Stylecraft Chunky Harlequin using a 6 hook. I like the rich colour palette and the unpredictability of the colours. I have decided to knit the left and right hand consecutively using two balls. I sometimes despair of having to crochet the other hand! It’s all in the mind as it will still take the same amount of time. I am waiting for the James Brett ‘Passion’ to come in, a lovely chunky yarn, but it has been delayed and I think Spring will be in the air before it arrives. I have an unfinished pair of H/W’s to complete using passion………but the passion may have run out before I get it.

Roses to reduce stress levels…….

DSCF1148
I made a decision that tonight should be dedicated to crochet and have made two flared roses using Debbie Bliss, ‘Andes’, alpaca and mulberry silk blend. A purple and a grey. Stress free and relaxing to make…… The doily with the little pansies was another charity shop find. DSCF1154
The pale rose is made of bamboo yarn.
As for the collar I have a devised a plan!!
1) Work at the table so that the pattern is easy to follow. (NOT slumped on the sofa!)
2) Concentrate. (DO NOT attempt to watch the television at the same time!)
3) Writing the pattern rows out to gain familiarity with the pattern and make it easier to read at a glance with colour coding for repeated stitches.
This morning I did one complete section of the pattern without a mistake! Only 156 more rows to go……

Creating chaos in the kitchen…..

DSCF0976
I will soon be forced to take control and create order. The pile of offcuts from my pom pom hat forms a small hill on the table. It is waiting to be transformed into something. There are small balls of wool waiting to become hearts, a box of felted hearts waiting for flowers and a china bowl with flowers waiting to adorn hearts. Tomorrow I will have to sort out the muddle. I can’t possibly do it tonight as I am making a pin cushion….

Hand in Glove

DSCF0731
Today I was doing my customary Wednesday charity shop search for the odd, interesting and quirky little find. Last week, it was a 99 pence boxed set of Glen Miller Records. I was elated with my find.
This week was a glove day……. I discovered two pairs of hand crocheted evening gloves. Delightfully worn with age, beautifully crocheted, with attention to detail and just the thing for a girl to wear to a forties dance…… What is the story they could tell. I wonder who has worn them? Who’s hand has held them or been held by them? Who made them and for what event? I will never know but they will continue their journey as part of the story of my life……DSCF0734DSCF0727

Rosie cosy just for you…..

DSCF0641DSCF0635
The ‘Rosie Cosy’ is complete with twelve everlasting red roses. I had to motivate myself into a rose making mood and have done a box of extras, waiting in the wings for their debut into the world of yarn two yarn. They are easy too make and I often take little balls of yarn out with me so that I can make a petal string or two. I have decided to try and build up a bank of flowers to adorn items.DSCF0688I
Iron the petal string and then roll and stitch.DSCF0690
