Knitted to distraction

I thought that it would be a good idea tonight to tackle the lace collar that has been driving me to distraction. It is a lovely Debbie Bliss pattern in Rialto Lace, however, I am still struggling to keep the correct number of stitches and to select the correct needle size for the tension to be correct. The recommended size is UK 8, I have tried a UK 12 and it looks neat and closer to the required size, until I made the dreaded mistake, too many stitches!!!! At this stage I got a different colour and decided to go up in needle size to a UK 9. So far I have only got to row 5, I have to count the number of stitches each time, as somehow, from somewhere, they just seem to increase …… I am determined to master this pattern, but maybe not tonight!
On a lighter note the kitchen table is less chaotic as the hill of woollen offcuts has been bagged and the balls of yarn returned to the stash on the top of the stairs…Goodnight all.

About hookandply

I am a painter and maker. I love experimenting with colour and textures and I find wools and fabrics irresistable. I was taught to knit by my mother and have always felt comfortable with all things knitting but about two years ago I started to learn to crochet and got hooked. I have various projects scattered around the house so that I can pick up a project wherever I am. If I go out I take some trusty crochet with me to do when I am enjoying a break in a cafe. It is a good starting point for a conversation. Has anyone else found this? My most resent passion is Lindy Hop and the 1940's but that is another story.

  1. My sister, an avid knitter, has given up trying to teach me to knit- I just didn’t take to it. But that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the luscious colors and textures and all the hard work that goes into any knitted project. Your blog is beautiful, it’s like browsing through a funky yarn shop!

  2. Your collar is going to be beautiful!!
