I was so aware of my mother constantly knitting when I was a child. I very rarely saw her without a knitting project. We made regular visits to the wool shop, every Friday on the way to the Co-operative store. It was the days of the dividend card. The owner was an obliging lady who would put the wool by so that you could pay as and when you needed it….. I can’t imagine this happening now. She had lots of knitting needles, stitch holders and counters. She knitted every evening and her work was precise and neat. I learnt from her at a very young age but unfortunately my knitting is not so precise.
I treasure my collection of knitting needles and love the colourful variety in preference to the metal needle. They are not only functional but decorative. I have got a set of bamboo needles in a pretty floral case, purchase in my local wool shop.
I find that these help with strain on the hands.
I am gradually building up a collection of hooks……..
Passing on the paraphernalia of a knitter…..

That’s awesome that you could pay as you go at the yarn shop! What great memories. I never knew a single knitter as a child but my kids will definitely inherit all of my needles and accessories. ๐
That’s wonderful…… I love the idea of skills and the items associated with them being handed on. I have started to think about other things in my possession that were passed on by my family…. Thank you for the reply it makes such a difference.
Nice, just looking at them have a calming effect ๐
They are a reassuring sight in the room and on a dull day it cheers me to see them in the vase…. Thank you for stopping by.
